Hair and Make up: Please wear your hair and make-up in your normal day to day style.
Dress from head to toe
Give broad stripes, bold print and trendy graphic designs a miss if you can. This will greatly reduce your portrait from dating and, from an artistic perspective the plainer your clothing is, the more you will see the faces of your family grouping, which is the most important part of your portrait.
Three quarter and full length sleeves are preferable and long pants for men a must.
No shorts please (except kids under 10 years).
We do recommend a ‘casual’ look, and suggest denim as it is a great look in most portraits, and everyone loves to wear it.
NB: These are guidelines not rules. First and foremost, it is important you look the way you desire. Remember, this is your portrait so ask yourself, “How do I want to be remembered?”
To help you be prepared…..
When you view the results from your portrait session, you will be able to choose from both
Colour and Black & White images of your final artworked portraits.
Today our artists can control and change colours that clash in your portrait, so the only coordination
we suggest is your dress code. To do this, choose whether you wish your portrait to be formal or more casual or maybe a themed portrait. Once you’ve made your mind up, make sure you are all dressed similarly eg: If someone in your portrait wishes to be formal, everyone else should be formal. If someone wants to be dressed in farming clothes with their gumboots, then it should be farm clothes and gumboots for everyone.
For all themed Portrait Sessions, we request any creative ideas to be approved at least one day prior to your Portrait Session appointment.
You can add a loved pet to your Family Group which we recommend, as it does add interest value to a portrait.
Check out our Image Gallery for some ideas.
By the way… don’t worry about your clothing not suiting the settings you are photographed in. Our talented artists can change the setting of your portrait after we have photographed your family. You will be impressed as to how we achieve this, and guarantee your family grouping will be blended into the perfect setting, thus ensuring a balanced artistic theme sure to impress.
We appreciate most parents want their Portrait Session to be successful and the main concern we see from Mums and Dads, is the behavior of preschoolers. Gerald loves kids of all ages and with over 30 years experience in portraiture, understands it can be a wee bit scary for little ones in unfamiliar surroundings, let alone meeting unfamiliar persons. PLEASE DON’T WORRY, you will be impressed to see how Gerald skillfully turns most kiddies he meets into photographic stars, which has given many of our clients the result they love. We do recommend that parents keep things as normal as possible, and be ready to follow any helpful suggestions Gerald may have on the day…you’ll love it.
